Private Classes & Personal Practice/Yoga Therapy

Private Classes

We offer the following:

  1. Private classes at The Yoga Garden: Are you too busy to attend classes? Do you prefer to practice in your own space? We can offer you a 75mins general practice including a range of postures aimed at improving your strength, flexibility and balance. The practice will end with a relaxation and, if desired, a breathing and/or meditation practice to leave you grounded and centred. $90 per session.
  2. Small Group: same as above with a few friends and/or your partner. $90 (a maximum of 4 people).

Personal Practice/Yoga Therapy

Traditionally in India, yoga was taught (and still is) on a "one-on-one" basis. All teachers at The Yoga Garden have trained in the classical tradition of Sri T. Krishnamacharya (the teacher of the teachers) and are skilled in developing personalised practices, using a range of tools and techniques.

In developing your practice, the teacher will help you formulate your needs and goals taking into consideration your physical abilities, stage of life, profession, present/past injuries, mental state, season, time of practice, length of practice, etc.

When you commence your Personal Practice sessions, you will be encouraged to practice regularly, several times a week. Even if there are no specific conditions to address, a Personal Practice will optimise your personal development on many levels. Depending on your goals, this development could be physical, mental, emotional or spiritual.

If you suffer from an acute or chronic condition, general classes may be harmful. If this is the case for you, you might like to consult with one of our teachers who has undertaken further studies in the use of yoga for therapeutic applications. Yoga therapy is often used as a complementary modality to other treatment(s) to address issues such as:

Below is an outline of the general structure of "Personal Practice or Yoga Therapy" sessions. Depending on your condition, this may be revised. Each session is an hour long.

During the first session, we will discuss the presenting issue(s), and have an appropriate and thorough physical assessment. In some instance, we may even give you a very short practice to work with until the second session.

The second session usually takes place a week later. In our tradition, it is strongly advised to reflect/meditate on a student so that the personal practice incorporates all the elements gathered during the first session. We will take you step by step through the practice and apply modifications if necessary. The practice is easy to read with diagrams, breathing instructions, repetitions and holds.

The third session takes place after 1-2 weeks of regular practice. We will get your feedback and amend and/or extend the practice to reflect your changing needs.

We then recommend that you revise your Personal Practice every change of season to pursue your personal development, or simply to adapt the practice to your changing goals and needs. For Yoga Therapy, frequency of sessions may vary depending on the presenting issues.
